Who has developed INVESIL coating?

INVESIL coating was world’s first commercial antimicrobial coating and incepted in 2007 by a renowned coating scientist Dr. Atul Tiwari who has also published more than 20 books along with the first handbook on antimicrobial coatings.

What is the appearance of INVESIL coating?

INVESIL is a transparent liquid and changes to transparent solid film on exposure to moisture and temperature.

What is the protection mode or modus operandi of INVESIL coating?

Only INVESIL works by creating a one of its kind tri-layered structure. The top layer provides a self-cleaning action followed by the second layer that provides protection through an EPA registered bioactive agent. This is followed by a third layer contains a patented TRION chemistry that works in the bulk of the coating and even if coating is severely scratched.

How INVESIL is supplied to customers?

INVESIL is one-part (1K) liquid and is available in different packaging like 1 Kg, 5 Kg, aerosol cans, and single wipe sachets.

What kind of surface preparation is required before applying INVESIL?

Surface should be cleaned of dust, dirt, and any removable residue prior to the application of INVESIL.

How long it takes INVESIL to harden on surface?

Typically, INVESIL hardens to touch in one hour but needs overnight hardening before handling the traffic.

How INVESIL is protected from replication?

INVESIL is a registered trademark of Flora Coatings and is patent protected globally through PCT and series of awarded and field IP documents.

How the characteristics of INVESIL independently verified?

INVESIL has been tested by the leading US government labs, ASTM verified labs and major companies.

Is INVESIL, in any way, chemically and/or biologically active as a surface application?

INVESIL coating is inert once applied and cured. Active in a sense that the surface has active ingredients registered with the EPA.

Is INVESIL effective against all microbial/viral pathogens?

INVESIL has been tested against the most prevalent bacteria, virus and pathogens found in hospitals with current available test protocols.

Does INVESIL, in any way, alter the surface that it is applied to?

INVESIL does not alter the surface it attaches to it and creates its own.

Does INVESIL have optical polarization characteristics once applied and cured?

Yes, the characteristics depend on applied thickness.

Will INVESIL react with any cleaning agent?

No! Once the surface is cured, it does not.

Can INVESIL be removed from surfaces on which it has cured?

Yes. Removal is dependent on the surface it has been applied to.

Once applied and cured does INVESIL burn or promote burning?

No. INVESIL acts as a thin coat barrier to ignition.

Does the fluid in which INVESIL is suspended burn or promote burning in either its liquid state or its aerosolized application state?

Yes, the liquid and vapor are flammable. Please refer to TDS and SDS.

If flammable, what is the flashpoint of the INVESIL suspension liquid?

Doe the suspension liquid sustains a fire once it has been ignited and then the flame source is removed?

Yes, it is flammable. Please refer to the SDS and TDS.

Does the INVESIL suspension fluid create odors as it evaporates?

Yes. Please refer to SDS and TDS for exposure controls and PPE requirements.

Are any of these evaporative products a health concern in any way?

Does INVESIL create any carcinogenic chemicals when it does burn or is heated to its flash point?

How does INVESIL degrade over time in extreme temperatures, high energy environments (sunlight/UV)?

INVESIL is expected to last for up to 1 year under normal conditions and exposures.

Is there any active ingredient issue in either the suspension fluid or the INVESIL material itself that can cause skin, lung, eye, or other irritation of injury?

Can INVESIL be applied in doors?

Yes, with proper ventilation please refer to SDS and TDS.

Can it be applied outdoors?

Yes, application quality may need to be considered.

What protective measures must be taken for the personnel applying INVESIL – indoors or outdoors?

What precautions must be taken in the building or outside area where INVESIL is applied?

INVESIL should be applied by qualified trained personnel following application processes.

Are there any issues with over-spray that require caution for the health of those applying it?

Yes, precautions should be taken, and proper PPE worn to protect from exposure.

Has the EPA granted a Master Label for INVESIL?

INVESIL contains active ingredients registered with the EPA.

If not is there a plan to gain the EPA Master Label status?

EPA registration is on the INVESIL label.

What environmental considerations should be considered in the use of INVESIL?

Are there any special storage requirements for INVESIL – temperature, humidity, etc.?

INVESIL must be stored in a cool dry place away from moisture between 30F and 100F. Please refer to the SDS and TDS.

What other certifications have been granted/achieved for INVESIL?

FDA and NSF consideration have been applied.

Has the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) tested INVESIL and certified it?

Not currently required.

Has the FAA certified INVESIL for use in aircraft and associated systems? What about FDA, OSHA, Health and Human Services, Department of Commerce, etc.?

FAA testing requirements have been met and exceeded through Burn and Smoke Toxicity testing.

What about certifications form the EU and other foreign governments/agencies?

The SDS is GHS certified for worldwide use. INVESIL is Reach compliant.

What instructions are on the INVESIL container?

What does one do with left over INVESIL – how is it disposed off?

Please refer to SDS and Dispose of in accordance to local, state, and federal regulations.

Are the used containers recyclable?

Current containers are steel and aluminum and considered recyclable

What is the maximum microbial and/or viral loading that INVESIL can effectively neutralize?

It is expected that INVESIL can eliminate microbial activity for years after application. The active ingredients are solids and can last a very long period.

How do I know INVESIL is being effective?

Test the surface for microbial activity.

How do I know what coverage of INVESIL has achieved in initial and follow-on application?

Visual and refractive heat testing are currently being reviewed.

How does INVESIL breakdown over time?

INVESIL is expected to stand up under normal conditions (room temp) for years. Outdoors conditions will vary but still expected to last up to 12 months with outdoor exposure.

Why does INVESIL breakdown over time?

The elements breakdown over time.

What prevents or slows INVESIL degradation over time?

INVESIL is a coating applied over many substrates and as those substrates breakdown so will the INVESIL.

Is there any other product or application that should be used with INVESIL to improve its durability, efficacy or otherwise improve its performance?

Yes, INVESIL can adhere strongly to silicone gloves and titanium metal surface.

Is INVESIL toxic to human contact and application purpose?

Flora Coatings does not use any ingredient that is toxic to human and environmental health. The application instructions in SDS and TDS should however be followed closely.

How is INVESIL distributed?

What type of equipment is used to apply INVESIL?

Can be applied by dip, wipe, brush, roller, sponge, sprayer, or spin.

Is there specialized test equipment required or available as recommended by the manufacturer to test for microbial/viral loadings before during and after INVESIL is applied?

Standard surface microbial testing devises or methods.

What happens if the cure period for INVESIL is interrupted – is the product unstable; does the product get wiped away by contact?

Finish curing process and depending on the surface applied to the surface may have to be reworked to get a desired finish.

Dependent on application method and thickness applied, temperature and humidity.

Does INVESIL – on initial or follow-on application – attack or change the appearance of vinyl, other plastics, leather, wood, stone, metal, glass, polycarbonates, or cloth in any way?

Test surface prior to any application to ensure desired result can be achieved.

What surfaces should INVESIL not be applied on?

Need to be more specific, most hard surfaces can be coated.

Are there any environmental hazards with INVESIL – or potential hazards?

What is the optimum temperature/humidity conditions for application of INVESIL – indoors and outdoors?

Does INVESIL build-up in/on the application equipment – if so, what cleaning measures for the equipment are recommended/required?

Yes, equipment should be thoroughly cleaned after each use or new application devise such as rollers or brushes.

How does one clean up spills with INVESIL – are there any recommendations / cautions?

Yes, Please refer to SDS and TDS for cleanup procedures.

Can INVESIL be applied in machinery, in engines – if so as a direct additive or as combined with fuel/oil or other transport medium?

No. INVESIL needs to be able to self-level and is not an additive.

What are the expected effects for internal application of INVESIL on machinery?

Need to be more specific on application inquiry.

Can INVESIL be used in toilets to combat microbial/viral issues?

Yes, Can be used on the complete toilet and water tank or reservoir.

What applications must be avoided?

I see you suggest the best results for applying are by using a LVLP spray gun. But if we were to have this done wipe wipes what are your suggestions on the application process? Applying in a circular motion, applying in a straight line all in the same direction, or applying it horizontally then vertically?

As the number of application area are significantly large, we, therefore suggest customers to develop their own application method conducive to their substrates.

Will putting anything coated under a heat lamp cure the coatings faster?

Yes, INVESIL curing can be accelerated at higher heat or temperature.

If applied to concrete will it prevent spray paint from bonding or allow simple wash off with a sponge, soap, and water? Or would a power washing remove it?

It will certainly help in easy removal of the paint. However, our other product AVIRAL more suitable for such application.

When applied to metal, painted surface or fiberglass does it have a glossy or matt finish?

Depending on the surface, INVESIL could enhance the gloss. INVESIL for matt finish is also available.

How well does it bond to wood? Does it create a coloration difference on a coated area?

INVESIL bonds strongly to wood and does not affect the appearance.

What is the longevity of the coatings on metal, glass, wood, concrete, plastic, etc.? Does each surface have a difference in length of how long it lasts?

Service life of INVESIL depends on the substrate and aggressive usage.

Which formula works on textiles? What properties does it give textiles? Does it make them stain resistant, hydrophobic, oleophobic? How long does it last on them? Can the textiles be washed? If so, how many washings can it last? Does it make the fabric stiff or is the coating stretchable?

INVESIL can be applied on textile and easily last well over current industrial standards. Indirect testing has indicated that it can last over 200 cycles of washing.

Is INVESIL coating considered topical coatings or penetration-based coatings?

INVESIL on application creates thrapple layers of protection. Coating bonds covalently with most surfaces and can be considered penetration-based coating.

In one of the articles you mention the coating is Anti-Fouling. If this were put on the bottom of a boat would it prevent algae build up and barnacle build up? If so, how long would the coating last on the bottom of a boat?

One of the thicker variations of INVESIL can be applied on the bottom of a boat to prevent barnacles’ attachment. Product is being tested to determine the service life of the coating.

Since the coating is clear would it prevent scratches on polycarbonate and acrylic windshields?

Yes, it can prevent from scratches.

What are the contact angles over INVESIL coating?

Contact angle depend on the selected INVESIL product and can range from 95 to 110 degree for water as solvent.

Do these coatings require buffing after application? If so, how long after each coating is applied do you buff off? What type of cloth do you suggest for buffing?

No buffing is required in INVESIL coating application.

Does any of these coatings bond and coat rubber?

Yes, INVESIL can bond strongly to rubbers.

Where INVESIL has been applied so far?

INVESIL has been applied to numerous surfaces and businesses so far. We know that more than new businesses have been created around INVESIL product sales and applications.

Is available for white label or private labeling?

Unfortunately, private label is not available for any product offered by Flora Coatings.

Is INVESIL available outside the United States?

Yes, INVESIL is available in almost every part of the world through our distribution network.

Can INVESIL be applied using electrostatic spray gun?

The electrical conductivity in INVESIL is 40 mega ohms that is more than enough needed for electrostatic sprayer. Being a flammable coating composition, user must decide the best mode of safe application practice.

How coating on surface can be assured?

We are in process of developing few spectroscopic methods to ensure coating on the surface. Currently, manual observations are needed to verify the status of the coating on the surface. Few ATP based equipment could indicate the presence of coating on surface.

Can INVESIL be colored?

Yes, INVESIL can be pigmented, however, efficacy may be affected.
